As you traverse the Gower Peninsula, you'll stumble upon ancient relics and remnants of a bygone era.  Cycling holidays in Gower and Swansea Bay offer the perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in the stunning landscapes, coastal paths, and charming villages of our beautiful region. Whether you prefer leisurely rides along the Swansea Bay 5.8 mile of prom with the family stopping off for refreshments and the world renowned ‘Joe’s Ice Cream’ or more challenging off-road adventures, Gower and Swansea have plenty to offer cycling enthusiasts of all levels. 

Swansea Bay Prom

The Swansea Bay prom cycle route, runs along the old Mumbles tramway (The World’s very first railway passengers) and is a fantastic cycling route for those who prefer a more leisurely ‘flat’ ride. 

The path, shared with walkers, has beautiful views of the whole of Swansea Bay and Mumbles and most picturesque as the sun rises.

Along the route are cafes, restaurants and pubs. Towards the Mumble end of the route you’ll find an array of Mumbles Independent Shops (Newton Road) and the 12thCentury Oystermouth Castle overlooking the Bay. 

Those wanting to extend their ride can head westwards towards Gowerton through Clyne Valley Country Park where you can join the Millennium Coastal Path taking you through Llanelli along the cost and through to Kidwelly. This route is approximately 24 miles.  

The full ride from Swansea to Kidwelly is about 24 miles and apart from a short section in Gowerton, is entirely traffic-free and family-friendly. A highly recommended day out.

Gower Off Road Routes

Gower boasts 27km of paths through some of the most scenic areas of Gower following ancient bridleways and have been used for centuries. Most of the routes are off road and can be quite quiet, however take caution when cycling during the peak Summer months as this route can be busy.  We are fortunate to be based on Gower surrounded by an excellent choice of beaches, many of which are dog friendly - ideal for those who are staying with their four legged friends in our dog friendly lodges!  

During the Summer season, although there are some beaches in Swansea where dogs are not permitted, there are still plenty of options including the Award winning  Rhossili Bay – Wales’ Best Beach 2017 and one of the UK’s Top 10 Beaches (Trip Advisor Traveller’s Choice Awards!). With accolades such as “Britain’s Best Beach”, and the “UK’s Best Picnic Spot”.

• Pwll Du (approx 30 minute walk from the hotel or 10 minute drive and short walk)
• Pobbles (approx 1 hour walk or 6 minute drive and a short walk)
• Swansea Bay from the slip opposite Victoria Park to the beach access at Sketty Lane (approx 8 minute drive) - dogs must be kept on a lead at all times. 
• Mumbles (approx 10 minute drive)
• Crawley  (approx 9 min drive to the  Penmaen footpath and a short walk )  Beach is adjacent to Oxwich Bay
• Tor Bay (approx 90 minute walk or 11 minute drive and short walk)
• Three Cliffs (approx 1 hour walk or 14 minute drive and a short walk)
• Oxwich (approx 16 minute drive)
• Port Eynon from the main steps west to the Salt House (approx 25 minute drive)
• Horton from the lifeguard station east towards Oxwich (approx 30 minute drive)
• Rhossili (approx 29 minute drive)
• Llangennith (approx 29 minute drive)
• Mewslade (approx 30 minute drive)
• Broughton (approx 35 minute drive)
• Whiteford Sands (approx 34 minute drive)

Dog Friendly Beaches between 1st October & 30th April 

• Swansea Bay from the River Tawe to the slip opposite Victoria Park  from the beach access at Sketty Lane to the northern edge of the slip at the West Cross Inn (approx 8 minute drive) 
• Bracelet Bay (approx 15 minute drive)
• Limeslade Bay  (approx 15 minute drive)
• Rotherslade Bay* (approx 1 hour walk or 10 minute drive)
• Langland Bay* (approx 1 hour walk or 11 minute drive)
• Caswell Bay* (approx 1hr 15 minute walk or 7 minute drive)
• Port Eynon beach from the eastern edge of the steps to Port Eynon beach to the eastern edge of Horton beach access (approx 25 minute drive)

These restrictions do not apply to guide dogs for the blind.
